David Hayton, 38, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in the sexual communication with a child he believed to be 13
A man is waiting to learn his fate after he admitted trying to make sexual communication with a child.
David Hayton, 38, pleaded guilty to the charge at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday.
He admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child he believed was 13, for sexual gratification in August last year.
Hayton, of Warwick Crescent, Billingham, had no previous convictions.
He will now be on the sex offenders' register as a result of his conviction.
Judge Deborah Sherwin bailed him until sentencing on October 22.
She told the defendant: "I can't sentence you today because there needs to be a pre-sentence report prepared by the Probation Service.
"That will address a number of different matters such as your background, attitude to the offence and all sorts of things like that.
"It is an important document that the court will take into account in due course.
"That's not to give you any kind of promise as to what the sentence will be.
"That will be for the judge on the next occasion.
"You're now obliged to register as a sex offender."
